Some of these feeder funds and FOFs have much greater exposure to Madoff when you start applying that 6 year limit. Most are re-balanced every year to reduce exposure to some predetermined percentage. Consider how consistent his fictitious returns were, when everyone else's were following the averages. That's six years of re-balancing those 12% profits into something else, somewhere else that most likely lost them principle in the past six months.
