Quite right DJ. <Behind any currency as the mode of commercial exchange there's trust. >

But not so right here: <the human race does not know any metaphysical, absolute etc trust >

We can trust our own consciousness. "I think, therefore I am". It's as good as we get [as far as I can tell, though it's possible it's all a big trick invented by a magician tomorrow and we are seeing a prequel]. We can likewise trust that others have the same processes going on in their brains. Not all of them of course, because some can do really stupid and even suicidal things. But for the most part, for a billion years, the existential foundation of DNA is that life goes on and most of life chooses to do so because there is no alternative.

We can rely on and trust that process because if it fails, there is no life and it won't matter anyway.

The difference between Mq's Qi and the bog standard currencies is that the normal ones are a confidence trick on the other people who accept the promissory notes issued by the con-men. The people who print, control and issue regular fiat currencies are not the same people who are left holding the bag of failed trust.

Hi DJ,

Are you being affected by the Russian gas shutoff?

We're in the throes of a deep freeze here. It's -17F outside and the trees are covered with beautiful white hoarfrost. We're using so much locally-produced natural gas that the high demand is forcing a temporary cutback in LNG production for export to Japan...

Anchorage energy use hits all-time record
COLD: Daily consumption of gas, electricity peaks.
