Funds are still very long gold futures, even though the
net dropped a lot. They can and did go very short in the past.
In particular, at an all time low they were the shortest,
about 100K contracts. The problem is, they can't find
much physical gold when it drops to 700. -g- Overall, gold
either trades with the dollar (inversely to it, of course) or
leads it a bit. That correlation has been extremely high,
probably 80-90-ish.
