Snowmobiler rescued near West Yellowstone Airport

Posted: Dec 29, 2008 01:43 PM CST

A snowmobiler was rescued after colliding with a tree in the backcountry near the West Yellowstone Airport and Highway 191.

The 15-year-old male was reportedly snowmobiling with his family on a trail about one and a half miles north of the airport and about a quarter mile from the highway when he left the trail and collided with a tree, breaking his left femur.

Members of the West Yellowstone Division, West Yellowstone Fire Department and the Gallatin County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene at about 4:37 p.m. Saturday.

The injured snowmobiler was transported on a rescue sled about one and a half miles to an ambulance. The West Yellowstone Fire Department transported the teen to a hospital in Rexburg, Idaho.
