oil accounts for 1/10 of Canada’s exports, price dropped 33% in December.

The domestic economy contracted 0.1% in October, Statistics Canada said on Dec. 24, as wholesaling declined 2.7% on “significantly” lower automotive sales and manufacturing fell 0.7 percent, the third drop in five months.

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty forecast last week that Canada’s economy will shrink 0.4 percent in 2009, the first contraction in 18 years.
