To: Eric who wrote (3705 ) 12/31/2008 11:34:43 AM From: RetiredNow Respond to of 86356 Eric, you know what this conversation about alternative energy with Bob and others reminds me of? Do you remember when you and I were on the Cisco thread around 2003 talking about how video over IP, including video on demand, things like FiOS TV, and video downloads using NetFlix and YouTube was going to drive bandwidth growth, which would drive a new revenue growth surge at companies like Cisco? Do you also remember how there were many very doubtful people on that thread that said we didn't know what we were talking about and that YouTube was just a fad? Cisco's revenues doubled from $20B to $40B since then. An amazing feat for a company that size. Now here we are in 2008 and everything we said came true. Hell, video on demand, over IP, (YouTube) helped elect a President. Why is it that people fight so hard against seeing these trends, when they are as obvious as the nose on your face? The most perplexing thing to me is this argument that somehow investing in and expanding the alternative energy industry will somehow damage our economy, when in fact, the truth is the complete opposite. It's one of the very few bright spots in the economy right now and can one day be a job and wealth creator to rival, and most probably, eclipse the Internet, and yet, people are fighting against it. Do people like the misery of poverty and declining living standards? Sheesh. That's like banning our government from investing in the research that lead to the creation of the Internet. How stupid can we be in this country? Chatting with folks on this thread has lead me to the conclusion that there is a distinct anti-science, anti-government bias, and a lack of long term thinking among the rank and file in this country. No wonder we're falling behind in every economic statistic as compared to other developed nations. Oh sorry, I forgot. As Steve likes to point out, we don't believe in statistics on this thread.
