Actually, that's a prerequisite for getting caught. The truly smart and corrupt ones never do. Meanwhile the dumb and naive (Dubya) get blamed for everything else.

We hear about the "culture of corruption" in Washington every single day, don't we? Isn't that part of the reason why the Democrats won big in 2006 and 2008?

Anyway, former OC sheriff Mike Carona was once on Larry King Live and was called "America's Sheriff" at one point. He also had a bright future going forward in the Republican Party, despite many red flags being raised by OC muckrakers like Steven Greenhut of the libertarian OC Register. (Same with liberal publications whose editors my wife got to know personally.) The indictment of the sheriff was rightly hailed as a victory for OC journalists everywhere.
