You again ignore oil subsidies. You are very much like an ostrich with his head in the sand.

As far as world engagement vs isolationism, your version of world engagement is for us to point our military gun at everyone else's head and say, "engage with us on our terms, or else." That world view will lead more quickly to isolation, than any other posture we could take. In fact, it has lead to the isolation of the US from some of our allies in Europe and the strengthening of our competitors like Russia and Venezuela. You clearly have a sophomoric view of engagement, if you believe that our engagement with the Middle East is not currently isolationist.

You and I have very different world views. I believe in a posture that uses trade as a strategic weapon for co-opting competitors. Trade should be mutually beneficial and should be engaged in such a way to provide for a win-win to bind countries closer to us, not to prey on weaker nations, like we currently do for oil. Aggression to secure oil supplies leads to many enemies and attacks against us, as we have seen this decade.
