The big fear that I've had for a number of years is related to what Hawk mentioned a few times. Terrorism.

Taking down the grid.

This almost happened about 15 years ago if I remember correctly. A nut case went out and removed bolts in a number of BPA's power transmission towers here in the Northwest. If it was not for dumb luck it would not have been detected in time and if we had had a windstorm the entire grid here in the Northwest would have been taken down. I believe they caught the guy but it was all hushed up.

If I was a terrorist the easiest way to "take us down" would be to plant some small radio controlled bombs on just a few key towers in various areas of the country and you could effectively take down virtually every grid in a matter of seconds.

Forget going after Nuke plants and dams.. That is a waste of time. Just take down a few critical towers in remote areas. This is one of the Department of Homeland Securities biggest problems. It's just a matter of time.
