Well Steve to get that "cheap electricity" you will charge your vehicle at "off peak" times. I intend to charge my vehicle with my PV array so I don't need the grid.

The one cool thing is that you will see the "smart grid" come together very, very fast in the next ten years.

The beauty of solar generated electricity is it's at it's peak just when your running that air conditioner.

In some areas of the NW and in other areas of the country the only way to replace the towers and cables is with helicopters. A wild guess is two weeks down and that is only if we have a stockpile of extra equipment and manpower to do it. Juneau, Alaska lost their towers to their only power source,, a hydro plant and it took 6 months at least to get them replaced because of a avalanche. They ran on generators for months. (And at a very reduced capacity for the duration of that loss of hydro power.)
