But does that mean we go back to fundamentals as far as the dollar goes?

The problem with this kind of thinking, in my opinion, is that it totally disregards market psychology/sentiment. Determining the price of something that has zero intrinsic value, like the dollar is more dependant on perception than anything else. The dollar is worth what people think it is worth. Sort of like mortgage backed securities. We will see what happens, but there are more than just numbers involved here.

Edit: Madoff Securities may be a better analogue than MBS. Last year, everyone wanted in, now all of the sudden they are getting very few new clients.
