Absolutely. The difference is that there are many at the top that are playing to these feelings instead of fighting them.

Granted. But one of the differences between the Democrats and Republicans is that the Democrats are less willing/able to impose party discipline. Since the party itself doesn't contribute as much money to individual campaigns, they wind up with more who are willing to cross the party if things aren't to their liking. The Democrats wouldn't be able to pull off a K Street project, for example. Not that they can't see the utility of it or have those who'd love to direct the money from the Republicans to their own use, but they could never organize the effort and fly it below the radar like the Republicans did.
