Our presence in Iraq has been authorized by the UNSC for years now.

Should we use the word stupid to describe people who don't know this?

But recently, the US has been inclined to "go it alone" to the tune of $800B in Iraq. That's stupid. But stupid is as stupid does.

Geezus!! Talk about stupid..

The war in Iraq WAS A UN AUTHORIZED USE OF FORCE. The liberation of Kuwait was carried out under a binding UNSC resolution (678) and some 40 nations were involved in that effort:

And after 12 years of materially breaching the terms of the cease-fire, 1442 was UNANIMOUSLY PASSED giving 90 days for Saddam to come into full compliance. He failed to do so and was ousted.

Stupid was not removing Saddam from power in 1991.

And as I stated once before, the UN is a creation of the United States. We're the founding member, it's chief financier, and we also happen to host it's headquarters. So it doesn't freakin' matter if its UN authorized or the US going it alone.. We're still going to be required to put up the majority of the effort because it's in our interest to preserve the global economic order.
