Well, I don't all the details of some of his predictions, but I would say that overall he "hit the mark" pretty well. 2008 has been a very down year compared to 2007.

He was talking about a 20 percent decline in semiconductor capital equipment for the year. We have to wait until about the middle of January to get the final report for this past December, but it looks like it will be down around 30 percent for the year. Moreover, analysts have been saying recently that the down trend will continue into 2009 to the tune of approximately 30 percent.

Certainly DRAM and NAND have been in great over supply this year, causing prices to decrease dramatically and give memory makers such as MU and SNDK real problems as shown by their falling stock prices.

I thought there would be more mergers than there were this year, but maybe 09 will prove to be different.

Getting back to the decline this year in semiconductor equipment, the following shows that through the 1st 11 months of the year, Bookings are down 31 percent and Billings are down 27 percent.
