"Not a bad idea, but how long would it take before we have a new corrupted and convoluted mess?"

Can't guarantee the FUTURE....

But, my believe is that it would take *even longer* to try to edit the mess we have now --- because EVERY SINGLE SPECIAL INTEREST GROUP will will be going balls-to-the-wall to keep their perks.

A new, clean construct can build political momentum behind it.

They can say "no, we are NOT singling out your particular loophole for special elimination... 'cause we are starting out by eliminating ALL the loopholes. Then we bring every group to the discussion of which ones are truly useful, and - working on a level playing field - every special interest gets a fair shot at justifying WHY they deserve special favors.'

The key would be (& this is what the lobbyists hate the *most*) all that would be OUT IN THE OPEN.

They are more used to pressing their deals in the relative dark....
