Not possible.

That was 150 years ago in the U. S. with the gradual retirement of the Civil War "greenbacks." No inclination or mechanism for anything like that now.

As indebted a nation we are, this is the only way to get out of it. The other countries in the world are powerless against our plan right now. Could the US government have seen all this coming years ago and created the credit bubble to cause the disaster as a diversion?
