"<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<The irony of course is that while he fears that at any moment the "men in the white coats" are going to come get him, that is probably the best thing that could happen to him (i.e., once you're judged to be mentally incompetent, you can be compelled to take medication that will help you and protect others from you)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>"

Another sort of irony to me is the paranoia you exhibit about people you consider paranoid. I am much more fearful of people wanting to shove meds down peoples throat to try and force some sort of narrow conformity of thought.

You might want to take your own advice on this topic, unless, as often is the case with people who loudly mock so called 'conspiracy theorists' or 'paranoids', its just certain types of paranoia you want to control and repress. For instance, your conspiracy theory about paranoids 'getting you' and harming you seems to me to be way out of proportion to the actual danger they represent.

In fact, I think these types of people can have a beneficial role in a free society. Even if they are often wrong, those who might want to commit crimes have to worry that certain (if even obsessive) types of people might patch together bits of obscure information and call attention to their activity.

A much larger danger IMO would be a closed society where only certain thoughts are allowed to be voiced, and anything outside of what some 'autority' or mob considers 'normal' becomes a 'mental illness' with the authorities stripping a person of their rights and even violently manipulating and changing the 'offenders' brain chemistry in response. That type of power would seem to me be way too easy to abuse, blackmail and use for criminal activity. I find your paranoia on this subject to be a bit displaced, and after all that has occurred over the last 10 years its hard to understand your faith and trust in wanting to grant broad and authoritative powers to the state.
