Things do look very grim, but the market has been up since
November lows and just made a new trading high for the move.
So, we are in a rally mode, a pretty decent bear rally already.
The only question is where it ends.

FWIW, stocks rally a thousands of percent per year
in Zimbabwe, even though the economic picture could not be
more grim. We may have a similar story here - the Fed
devalued the currency by 50% already, so Spoos now have to
rally 100% to 1800 just to preserve purchasing power. -g-

haven't you ever seen a stock rally on news of a large lay-off? If the big three were suddenly unburdened from union labor, wouldn't you expect the balance sheet to improve, thereby laying the groundwork for a rally? Reigning in labor costs is part of the healing process.
