It's only certain bits of California i hear these people talking about, they won't be looking for cookie-cutter suburbia places and none seem to be in a hurry, two have family there and know the situation pretty well ... the fellow interested in apartments definitely knows real estate, did well buying in southern California during the 80s, what he's following may be the condo conversions Bob mentions, don't know

But it's strictly location location location, as VP points out ... areas like this Maricopa will put out of business the banks who hold them, meantime you won't get a place on the coast for nothing ... pretty much all of the well-off people i know made it by buying real estate well, holding it well, and selling it well - saving bits out of earnings, playing around with stocks, even building up businesses and selling them don't account for much [unless the business is built up on a held piece of real estate, increasing its value] ... always, success/failure lies in both timing and location

With Genco you get a mine and infrastructure that hasn't made any money for lo these long years, with Kootenay you get management, a treasury fatter than the shareprice, the best of business models and many outstanding properties ... fairly clear choice, to me ... if Genco is worth buying above all others, we'll find out soon enough, when Kootenay buys them out -g-
