The problem for people like us is that the data is not available, and probably not accurate to those to whom it is available. But more important, it does not matter.

I assume 400 trillion US worth of CDS risk in the market. I may be off by 200 trillion one way or the other. Those are the most 'reliable' figures I have read, and I certainly don't vouch for them.

The bailouts of the financial markets have been directly related to avoiding these blowups, and that is a very big reason why we are where we are.

Does finding out to the penny how much is at risk really matter under the circumstances?

If only 1% of that risk blows up, losses will be in the 2 to 6 trillion US range. A calamity.
