as to hitler, when economics and governments fail, hitlers become possible, rather than just plausible. which is entirely different than your meaning. but certainly, classicaly british and being so, expected.

i'd suggest "Dying of Money" published in 1974. now out of print, but probably a copy in one of your libraries. or a decent used copy on line for about 400 usd.
