We learned to hate inflation, which as nefarious taxation on poor people.
Rich people can defend themselves against it. Poor people's money is destroyed.

Always remember: it is always the poor who pay! Thus don't expect the rich to be taxed to help the poor. Which is going to be the starting point of the division of the US along ethnical-class lines, leading to the Balkanization.
