"I don't know if this helps you but the second and third photos show the rockets and the launching systems Hamas is using with them:"

No, those are too small. A rocket round is going to be about 5 inches in diameter and 6 to 9 feet long.

A couple of points that our local military experts are missing here. A basic Grad launcher is 40 tubes that is usually mounted on a truck, although other mounting systems exist. The truck is nice because you can launch the rockets, generally 2 a second, and then go somewhere else. By the time your opponents have enough time to pick your salvo up on radar and target you with counter-battery fire, you can be gone. You can't launch them all at the same time or you will flip the truck.

Now, there are several different types of loads that can go into these launchers. Some countries, like Egypt and Iran, only have a couple of different types. But larger countries have a more modular system so the loads can be tailored for the type of targets. Now the modern launchers are very sophisticated. They can accurately position the tubes so there is a better chance to actually hit something. Some launchers give the rocket a slow spin so they are stabilized by both the fins and the spin. So when they fire them, the rockets tend to land close together and can make a large area lethal.

Which is the whole point of these systems. They are artillery. Firing a single rocket is like firing a single cannon round. You only inflict damage by luck. They are supposed to be used by lining up dozens, or even hundreds of launchers and letting them fly. Used that way, they can be very effective on the battlefield. Using them singly, like the Palestinians do, is more along the lines of harassment than an actual attack. It is like lobbing a single mortar shell into an area. It makes people duck and cover, but any damage is pure luck.

How do you not rejoice when reading a caption like this on a photo?

"Many bodies lie outside the Hamas police headquarters following an Israeli air strike in Gaza City on December 27, 2008."

All dead terrorists.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning. It smells like ... victory.
