That's probably an accurate read. The Toyota Prius for example was introduce in the late 90's and 10 years later, still doesn't have a significant market share, although it has been steadily growing.

These things take time. I think what will accelerate it, though, is the improving value case as oil prices rise again, and as the march of improved technology brings more powerful, smaller batteries to market, along with fast recharge capabilities. That will help EVs make leaps in market share. But I too think we're on a 20-30 year trajectory here, and it is still not certain if lithium batteries will win. It could be fuel cells or supercapacitors or any number of things..
