I guess I'll try to make things just a little clearer for you (look at the GREEN line):



Scientists have been discussing the possibilities of ARCTIC SUMMER MINIMUM sea ice extent going to zero (i.e. the arctic being "free" of ice). They are not talking about WINTER MAXIMUMS going much of anywhere. If you are naive enough to think that this years winter maximum being similar to 1979's winter maximum means something significant (like duh, the arctic ice has "recovered" and global warming is a hoax, LOL), fine, its a free country.

Please note my posted graph is not actually summer minimums or winter maximums, but 3 month averages. The extremes are a bit more extreme than shown here.
