to our basic point, international politics is about national interest and particularly self defense. Dont know why chris gets it one time but not the other.

Of course Churchill knew. The Brit. gov't knew as early as 1938-39 that something bad was happening in Germany. FDR knew as well but wouldn't lift the quotas for letting Jews into this country. In fact, some claim that Churchill was anti Semitic, but really that accusation has as much to do with the accuser as the accusee.
