"Its hard to understand how someone exposed this as a ponzi scheme 8 years ago and no one at the SEC looked at him." The big question is, how many more like him are out there? There have been similar allegations made against others over the past few years. In addition, current conditions have created a situation where legitimate operations might be tempted to dip into Ponzi-hood to stay afloat until "things turn around". Which is likely how Madoff got into the game...
