Even so, my friend mentioned at a party during the summer that there were already ongoing RIF's. He was pretty annoyed because the workflow was not diminishing in the least, just fewer workers.

IBM in the Hudson Valley has always been known to shift workers, lines and other facilities quite suddenly and often without any obvious reason. For instance, throughout Westchester County there are former IBM facilities sharing that schoolish design which have long since been adapted for other companies needs. Twenty five years ago they pretty much just walked away from Kingston, (across the Hudson from the main facilities in Duchess County) and never went back.
