Its astounding to me that the Europeans would let themselves fall into this trap."

What does it auger for the future? Unless Europe is led by cretins, they will be finding ways to move away from Russian gas. And that likely won't improve relations any.

Actually, it might help. Putin is fukked up but he knows he needs money to continue to play his game. For an example, he had an axe to grind with the owners of MTL and went after them last summer.....naturally the stock fell like a rock:

I think it taught him a lesson because he hasn't fukked with MTL since. Remember, Putin is fairly new to capitalism......I am sure he's learning as he goes along.

If the Europeans start making a concerted effort to look for new sources of fuel, I suspect he will play nice nice and find other ways to get back at one of his favorite whipping boys, the Ukraine. Remember how Schroeder so eagerly embraced Gazprom a few years back....well that didn't help matters much......its like the fly running into the welcoming arms of the spider.

And then there is Bush......I wish he hadn't been so captivated by Putin's eyes.......we might have been to avert some of this mess.

Yes, dudes, ABB and BDS!
