Thanks for the reply.

but if you believe that coal power electric plants are the cause of global warming

I'm not quite sure what I believe in terms of coal-powered electric plants. Wind and solar-- meh. I agree, they're not that viable and they do have impacts.

I was pretty upset by the coal aash spill in TN recently, and there appear to be shades of Christie Todd Whitman's infamous post 9-11 "There's no health risk in the air in lower Manhattan" in the recent EPA announcements that there will not be health repercussions to the spill.

I do not think we know the longterm epidemiological effects of energy sources like coal-based electricity. And certainly in the long run, I can agree with you that "Mother Earth is Tough". However, human beings are far more vulnerable to the effects of our own shortsightedness.

My focus over the last year or so (other than my literary work) has been on the effects of factory farming and other general farming practices on our food and water supply-- and thus on public health. It seems more arrogant (and I'm speaking generally here) to believe that human practices, whether they be agricultural, energy, mining, or architectural, have no effect on their immediate environs...and no effect on their health.

There's a lot to know and I think the energy demands of our own country over the next some-odd years will yield up a huge amount of new information--and choices. And I'm looking forward to that.
