I keep chuckling at a country that ran itself into the ground with excessive, needless consumer spending on credit, way beyond our means, and now that people are pulling back and trying to be responsible in tough times, the talking heads all moan because we are afraid to spend. Savings are a menace? Clearly, we are headed in a new direction that is going to restructure our economy by sheer force of events. What it will look like at the end, I don't know. But I don't think we can rely just on spending at the mall now.
