You are very thoughtful to suggest that, Tim, but DAR has no rule against politics, never has. It was just that everyone liked the polite fun atmosphere, and politics is usually anything but that.
But heck, DAR is pretty dead now anyway, so why not use it if we want for what we want.
We'll just keep it to a minimum or if I think it's not working, will say something.

The Republican party needs to respect the religious right, without being dominated by it

Agreed. All views should be respected, but not necessarily granted dominance.

I think for the most part it has done this.

Not sure. I think Bush traded on it bigtime, with his own statements, and then with his appointments, and then with THEIR appointments. the whole Regent U. thing really bugged me since its mission is to get get believers in power and get us back to GOD and godly ways. Theirs.

Also while the religious right isn't really becoming more extreme ... on social issues the country has become more liberal

Agreed again- With the result that conservatives are actually more liberal on social issues than ever, and are more likely to be put off by the far rel. right and less likely to support its candidate because they no longer feel as strongly about a particular issue, and believe the far right candidate would be less viable.

As I hope Palin would be. And from what I am learning, Jihdal also.
