A Martian has just invaded earth. She knows that the internet is the place to be and wants to invest. She asks for a list of the top 9 performing network stocks over the past 2 weeks (since one of these stocks, ASND, reported earnings). She knows nothing of past angst about stock performance before the last two weeks. The list presented to the Martian is as follows: Stock 10/9 10/23 %gain (loss) ASND 33 1/8 33 7/8 2.3 CSCO 81 7/8 81 1/2 ( 0.5) LU 88 7/16 84 ( 5.0) XYLAN 23 3/8 21 1/16 ( 9.9) NN 65 3/8 57 (12.8) NT 109 3/16 94 3/4 (13.2) FORE 20 15/16 17 15/16 (14.3) BAY 41 34 1/2 (15.9) COMS 55 5/16 46 5/16 (16.3) The Martian is worried by the trend, but likes the one stock, ASND, that seems to be performing well. Interestingly, the Martian learns that this company, ASND, just repriced its employee stock options at 34 15/16, something that might well cause its employees to hang tough and might further indicate that ASND's management perceived that to be a good low price. Further, the Martian learns that no ASND insider has sold any shares in the past 2 weeks (or before). Lastly, the Martian learns that this company, ASND, has a product that other companies might want to sell for themselves and that the company is talking to these companies about such an idea. The Martian likes what she sees. Gary Korn
