Having grown up in Toledo I know well the trickle down of Detroit. I have several close friends whose families have made tidy little midwest fortunes on supplying Detroit...multigenerational businesses that are now on the brink. Seems unfathomable, but yet, here we are.

(My cousin sells for Gerdau--legacy from MACsteel--and she said they are of course getting killed in Detroit, but the international demand has fallen off a cliff according to her. The swings in demand have been outrageous and it must be mindbending being a purchaser. Allegedly, China is hoarding raw ore which is throwing some wrenches into the machine, too.)
