Flexible wages may be good for economic efficiency, but they don't reduce the depth and length of recessions. The worst recessions and depressions in the US occurred in the 19th century, when wages were at their most flexible. In any case, the US right now has a very flexible wage regime, with unions being the weakest in generations.
