The Freddy/Fannie/subprime/derivative blow-up was obviously going to happen. A lot of us have been saying so for years. I could do a little research on SI and document that we were predicting this.

What we did not predict and what no one expected was that Ben Bernanke would vastly exceed custom and even authority and possibly break the law in extending Fed support as he has--and that Paulson would panic Bush into supporting and pushing through Congress this incredibly extravagant series of bailout schemes.

Now it has all happened.

There have been two very perverse, paradoxical effects:

1. The commodities markets went into a serious decline.

2. The stock markets continued to decline.

Both these things combined to drag down the stocks of commodity producers, especially gold producers, to extremely low levels.

Instead of lamenting this absurdity, however, I rejoice in it--as a private speculator, not as an American citizen. As an American citizen I am appalled to see such lack of resolve, ignorance, and recklessness on the part of my government.
