All Short ETF players. No, those were not huge losses in one day on the Pro Shares Ultra funds. They paid very, very large capital gains on some of these, MZZ and SDP, my two favorites, included. There was also a rally that hurt them, but most of the loss in price is attributable to the gains distributions.

I am planning to buy TBT. I just think oil and gold are more likely to move first. As long as they are down, it gives the impression that inflation is dead and bonds are fine.

I will admit, however, that my ten-year experience with buying various kinds of bear funds, while successful on the whole, has not proved anything nearly as profitable as identifying growth areas (i.e. tar sands) and investing there. There always seems to be something that doesn't work quite right about a bear fund. Sometimes, such a fund can behave quite insanely (FXP).
