Loophole Angers Illegal Immigration Foes

PHOENIX -- A loophole in federal law is enabling hundreds of illegal immigrants to live in homes subsidized by U.S. taxpayers, while thousands of others linger on waiting lists to get into those same units.
Those waiting lists are so long that most of them have been frozen for years, meaning people can't even submit an application for public housing. In Arizona, hundreds of those units are occupied by people who aren't even U.S. citizens.
The Salazar family has lived in a four-bedroom Phoenix public housing apartment for the past six years -- all 10 of them.
Their rent is only $150 a month and subsidized by the U.S. government, even though both parents are illegal immigrants from Mexico.
"They were not going to give it to my mom because she wasn't born here, but then they said, 'Yeah, since you have a U.S. born person,' she was able to get it," said the couple's 14-year-old daughter Miriam.
Federal law dictates that as long as one member of the family is in the U.S. legally, the rest of the family can join them in public housing, even though the government only subsidizes the legal residents.
The Salazars fit the typical scenario -- parents here illegally, who have had children on American soil.
"It's deplorable, just deplorable," said Michelle Dallacroce, an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration. She said she is outraged that her tax dollars are being used this way
"There are waiting lists right now with American families trying to get into public housing and they are being turned away because illegal aliens are living in public housing," she said.
In Arizona there are 7,000 public housing units, and in Phoenix alone, HUD says there are almost 16,000 families on its waiting list. HUD said statewide 622 units are currently housing illegal immigrants, only 9 percent of its total.
Yet it only took CBS 5 News five minutes in one Phoenix project to find two families who fit the bill -- the Salazars, and even their next-door neighbors, illegal immigrants from Guatemala, with three American-born children.
"Where is INS?" Dallacroce said. "Where is our government? Where are they?"
Not one government agency CBS 5 News contacted would go on camera. The Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services declined and said it's not its job to be critical of other federal agencies. And even HUD would only issue a statement via e-mail, saying, "HUD only provides subsidy for individuals with legal status."

With so many against illegal immigration,why is our Government not seeing what Americans want and do as we the voters intended our laws to do.How is it fair that the American is being kicked in the face by these people we placed in office with our votes.
Place the Army at the border and protected it against any invaders,the will of the American citizen is being ignored by most in Congress and the Senate.How in the world can these people live with themselves knowing how they have slapped the citizen in the face and allowed illegals to infiltrate the entire country and are allowing billions of dollars that belong to the citizen by way of taxes to be handed out as if it meant nothing.The new administration will most likely add to this already over crowded issue as they give amnesty to millions of criminals who produce more offspring then any race in the world,hold on to what you own before it is taken away from us and given to undeserving aliens who will bring down the entire country.Sad . I thought that Arizona passed new laws, all you have to do is call ICE, they will remove the illegal aliens.

I am a single american Mother, with two daughters. we have been on the Scottsdale HUD list for 2 years now.
and still nothing ! one week we are 99 on the list. then the next we are back at 100?
tell me how long will my children and I have to wait for our goverment to see we are suffering.
I am tired of being polite to the mexicans I work with. all of them have illegal names and the bosses know this. they don't care cause these people don't ask for breaks, or health care all they do is work and breed.
breeding means they can have more of our econamy. pushing us leagal americans to the curve.
they send 50% of every paycheck to thier wives in mexico. and they marry here so they can stay..
how is this right?
My daughters and I have each other that is all. My husband is one of the many dead beat dads roaming this state. and we live paycheck to pay check. at this time we are looking at becomeing homeless thanks to the econamy and the Illegal imigrants roaming our city.
I am fed up with the way America treats its people.

This is a shame that illegals from another country are treated better than American citizens. I hate to say it but i dont think it the parent or parents are illegal they should automatically be denied HUD housing. I dont care that they have anchor babies. This story is absolutely insane. The Government and "powers that be" are trying to force the American people into another civil war that will end with the "New World Order" and the total demise of our U.S. Constitution.
Flood the country with "anchor babies", depress the economy to balance out the divides between countries, drain our resources and Ignore our wishes. When will the populace "get a Pair" and stand up and demand that our elected officials, honor the oath they took?

This isn't about solves America's problems having illegal aliens in the USA and allowed to say and giving all these benefits.
This is about breaking down every aspect of being in the USA legally by destroying the foundation; destroying the economy and forcing stockmarkets to lose the life savings of every person who invested in it. This is about allowing Americans to lose their homes because of the mortgage crisis all the while knowing that illegal aliens were being given loans for homes and cars while not having the collaterial to pay it back!
Those benefiting are those being bailed out by Congress like the banks, car dealers and Freddie and Fannie and everyone else who has their hand OUT!
Illega aliens are just a quicker way to get to the end what our government wants us to get to....
total reliance on government!
Once the government owns all our assets such as banks, mortgages, car dealers/makers, public schools, etc., then what you have is socialism......

I can't say the ILLEGAL ALIENS are completely to blame for the shape of our economy, but they are a BIG part of the problem. The ILLEGAL ALIENS send BILLIONS upon BILLIONS out of this Country every year, money we will NEVER see again. Does this help our economy?
How about the BILLIONS the American taxpayers fork out for the ANCHOR BABIES, the schooling of them, the medical care and the list goes on, and on, and on.
How about the MILLIONS upon MILLIONS paid to jail ILLEGAL ALIENS for the crimes, then the cost to deport them. Does this help our economy?
Then you have these so called activist groups that want AMNESTY for these ILLEGAL ALIENS. It would be absolute suicide for this Country if AMNESTY were granted to the 20 million or so ILLEGAL ALIENS. We have more and more people out of work everyday and they want to add another 20 million to this Country? I say, "NO!"
If AMNESTY were ever granted to these 20 million ILLEGAL ALIENS, you can bet big money that 3 years from now, there would be ANOTHER 3-5 million ILLEGAL ALIENS demonstrating on our soil for AMNESTY. I don’t wish to lose my privilege on this site, so I will refrain from using the words that fit here.
An end MUST come to this illegal immigration. The perfect tool we have so far is E-Verify. It MUST be used by ALL businesses and Government Social Services. EVERY employee must be checked! If they are illegal, they are to be dismissed!
I believe it is time for all 50 States to pass a State law, like Arizona, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina and a few others. It is time for these ILLEGAL ALIENS to go back to their home Country and get out of this Country. The problems they are causing will not go away until the ILLEGAL ALIENS are out of this Country.
