Skeets, the easy one first. CDs over $100,000 can be traded by major brokerage firms, but good luck finding a broker who will do it. No money for him and a heck of a lot of trouble.

Terra looks like a decent play here. But I wouldn't count on that dividend, which is converging with eps fairly rapidly.

Commodities are not going to zero. I still think the biggest worry with these etfs that use futures is in where they are holding the cash. Nearly all of them held Lehman paper at one time or another. I don't know if all of them got out whole, which is possible. There were plenty of warnings.

Anadarko is a good, conservative co. My only bugaboo is that I remember buying it at this level not all that long ago.

I hope the SIPC does not increase its insurance levels for Madoff's clients.

what exactly is the SIPC and who determines whether something is covered under it? It would seem to me that coverage under the SIPC is not an absolute slam dunk. If investors put money into madoff securities directly that is a different story but if they they invest with a money manager in a nonsegregated way and he puts money with madoff why should they suddenly be covered? I assume that if the SIPC has to pay out billions of dollars under this it will likely make the exisiting fund a lot weaker, and I want to continue to be protected as an investor. any thoughts?

Ive really had it with all these bailouts and finagling. im still waifing for someone to reimburse me for the decline in my portfolio but it hasnt happened yet.
