Well... that's just the thing.

The Democrat Party is dominated by Big Government social liberals....

And the Republican Party is dominated by Big Government social conservatives....

And --- although they sometimes differ about the 'best' targets for their preferred foreign policies --- each Party is still dominated by Foreign Interventionists (which, necessarily requires yet more Big Government), and so, in this regard, are mostly joined at the hip.

WHICHEVER Party first breaks with it's big-spending foreign interventionism will attract the bulk of the Libertarians... and by doing so perhaps finally break the long tie between the Dems and the Reps... and possibly consign the other to history's reject bins.
