Interesting article in today's NYT regarding iran's almost ambivalence toward gazans. First they say gazans should fight to the last man and they all will be martyrs. When iranian radicals volunteer to fight there to become martyrs, they are ordered away. Seems Hamas, unlike Hizbo, is sunni and had been a big supporter of the hated saddam. Also seems that irans political aims are to to destabilize sunni arab states like egypt and saudi arabia. Also palestine/israel may be a policy they would consider changing in a grand deal with the US. The geopolitics of all this is fascinating as it always is. One other point---iran doesnt want to be to closely associated with the losing side in gaza and the perception is that hamas will lose. Only in PR terms will there be benefit but wont matter much if hamas actually loses leadership role in gaza.

Well, there was a little book called "Mein Kampf" that might have given the Germans a HINT of how things might end up.
