Good evening Mark,
When I heard him say that 2 of the 3 were working on the wordings of the press release, I thought that one of them has to be GTE. However, I'm not sure who the other one might be. Regarding France Telecom, I was caught by surprise. Maybe Pat has some insight to this.

Sincerely,

Jas

Mark - Good synopsis of Conference call. This was my first Westell Conference call, but I wasn't impressed.

Seamans said "Bell Atlantic" more times today than I did! I don't like the idea of a secondary offerring or another acquisition. When companies acquire too many companies they usually have a hard time getiing the expected or desired results.

[Conference Call]

Hi Mark,

I listened to the conference call, and you hit most of the main points. As for him sounding 'nervous and evasive,' I didn't get that sense more than I usually do from G.S. He gets a little flustered if the questions are too detailed, confidential, or more in Amati's realm (eg. TI's chip.)

I came away with a 'steady as she goes' mentality. A number of things are in the oven, and we're waiting for the timer to buzz (customer announcements). I think the most relieving items for me were that they lost the BC contract prior to acquiring Amati's DMT, that they fully intend to have the lowest cost solution for each technology, and that a BC type loss is much less likely going forward because of the cheap DMT they will offer. While I'm not happy we lost the initial BC contract, it was a small initial contract to learn the lesson of DMT on. I get the sense that all of Alcatel's victories thus far are open to challenge from the new gorilla on the ADSL block. Even so, we don't have to win all the contracts in order to generate large growth for Westell/Amati.

If they intend to do a secondary, they must have big plans in terms of ramp-up in the not too distant future. Seamans did emphasize over and over the enormity of commercial deployment going forward, though leaving the details to customer announcements. 1998 is the start of this volume deployment, according to the call (as we all knew).

Regards,

Richard

PS For those who haven't listened, the recording of the call is at: 800-479-6003. You just leave your name and phone number on the recording prior to listening (fully automated), for those who haven't tried it before.

Hi mark, Pat, BB, etc,

still the best informed people in ADSL:

'working on press release language, for what it's
worth.'

Sorry, I've had a few glasses of wine, but how hard can this
be????? I mean, come on, 1 hour, 2 hours??? Seems like either
there is an imminent annoucement or Seamans out and out lied.
I am still high on ADSL, but I think we may see lower stock
prices before higher ones.

Finally the superoirity of DMT gets acknowledged.

<<<hinted strongly in that Seamans way that more acquisitions might be on the horizon.>>>

Funny ...my take on that "Seamans way" hinting was that possibly Westell/Amati could be acquired

Gotta listen to the replay

FWIW

Dave

I've been thinking about this since the CC. How about Netspeed? They have patents on that modem pooling idea, they have a partnership with Nortel, they are going to use the MOT silicon, and they have a CAP contract with Telus. Westell talks about having the lowest cost solution and a modem pooling system would help. Nortel is also integrating Netspeeds technology into several of it's product lines... ala Westell into Lucent's products.... until later.

You mean we'll get to see the re-enactmant of the murder ... uh merger
in the S-4? Looking forward to reading it.
