People make tax mistakes all the time Dave. I'm sure as part of his vetting, he was audited for 7 years and it turned it up, and he paid it. I heard that the IMF has a weird was of "estimating" what your earnings will be, which caused the problem. His 1099 didn't reflect his full earnings.

The IRS accepts this kind of settlement from thousands of citizens every year, and they've accepted this one. No prosecution needed. No harm. No foul. No scandal.
