Great discussion of our present situation and how we go here but I have one serious quibble. He suggest that expenditures were controlled during the Clinton years. But the impact of Telecom deregulation should be taken into account. It took a few years for it to cause the worst period of malivestment that we have experienced but the impact of this investment drove up revenues during the Clinton years before the tech bubble burst. Second, Clinton also get credit for a surplus but the surplus was not real. Take away the fraudulent Unified Budget and he never had a deficit less than about 40 billion.
