In order to be progressive, one must be open to new ideas. I was early to the Supply side party in 1980 but watched it explode in the midst of corruption, excessive debt and greed. Didnt have to happen that way, but it did. Now we are once again in a demand side severe recession. A new and better new deal is required. As i see things, both parties are being too cautious here and may delay the recover and steepen the slide. Whats needed is a payroll tax holiday, a bonus increase in SS payments, same with unemployment benefits, cut in tax rates for lower and middle class, perhaps tax rebates in the form of debit cards that must be spent (use it or lose it). We have to get that money out there and into hands of folks who will spend it. We must reverse deflationary slide we are in ASAP. Does this make me a liberal? I think not. It makes me a realist, a pragmatist and a progressive. Will i be aligned with many liberals--for sure. But that doesnt mean that progressive conservatives who once bought into deficits dont matter and borrow and spend cant be open-minded enough to shift positions in a time of national crisis. Ten is a bright guy. I suspect he is grasping at straws of an ideology that has lost touch with reality.

RW, > Railing against change is easy.

What "change"? Same old failed ideas all over again.
