Brian, they have the money, now they have to launch, but most importantly they have to get paying customers. Fast!

Here is a bit from Readware [ex Loral thread]:

"I listened to the Iridium conference call today. Dr. Staiano, its CEO, stated on the call that Iridium expects 5 million users of their system by the year 2002. If they get half that number an Iridium shareholder today will be ecstatic in 2002. I see no reason for G* not to reach, or exceed, that number in 2002. If it is only half the number of 5 million, a G* shareholder and Loral shareholder will be ecstatic."

So 5 years after launching the first satellites and 4 years after all of them are up and within a year or so of the game over date for the satellites the Iridium boss expects only 5 million users. But to suggest that with only 2 million subscribers, Globalstar shareholders should be ecstatic is a big stretch. I want to see a FULL Globalstar system within 2 years of initial launch [Dec 97]. That will be much happiness. Anything less will be a bit of a yawn.

They'd better get making handsets fast. Get some subscriber pricing software into the satellites or ground controllers and handsets and sell the system quickly. None of this gradual ramp up nonsense. This is an expensive system which will be sitting in the sky. It needs to be very busy very fast.

There seems to be a complacent manna from heaven attitude which is going to leave the field open to hungrier competitors.
