Decent report when compared with last quarter. Forward looking
statements seem positive. Windows business is growing. Balance
sheet remains strong. All-in-all, stock should not respond
negatively to this report but we all know the market is whacky. PD

...As a webmaster, and user of internet tools, also long MACR (albeigt short in the money calls...) I left the conferance call with a very downbeat fealing...unless I misinterputed something they indicated that next Q they will lose .05..also indicated growth for 98 would likely be 20% (yawn)...I personally am most dismayed that in lew of there growth track falling off a cliff they refuse to cut costs...
On a more positive note...They have a very talented group of engineers who produce great "best of breed" software...have shown a savvy eye for well thought out acqusitions (i.e. - FLASH)...have a greaat balance sheet...as the bandwidth increases I feal this will play into there strenghs...(interactivity and multimedia)...although I feal that the "plugin" medaphore is dying...java is not quite there yet, I am happy to sea thaat they have adressed this vision adaquatly...would like them to be more agressive on the low end tool sector though (they are very stingy to their users in what they charge for there upgrades...)
Would like to see:
Webmaster toolkit, containing WYSIWYG's for animated gif's, skinny graphics,DHTML (dreamweaver adresses this but I think the space is another year away...),banner adds, server admin & knowledge tools (i.e. - who's hitting my site, wheere is my bottleneck...etc..)
Would love to ssee them focus away from interactivity, and relize that periiferals in this space is a wide open maraket...(i.e. - exe's to submit info to search engines...middlewear based on not just VB but options such as C++...etc...best bet is that this is dead money for another nine months...
P.S. -- Burgess - I was offended immensly when I pushed the 1 button on the conferance call and wasn't able to ask questions...
will sell the remainder of my stock on any rallys...
If you want to answer them now, these were my questions...
1) Breakdown in q sales what % Director?
2) Flash growth sequentilly? (Must be a great number!)
3) Please elaborate on your comment re: channel inventory...thought this was behind us...)
4) Why no mention of our video editing project?
5) Tell me more about "Monkeyboy..."
6) In a period of prolonged negative compaaritive growth how can you not cut head-count?
7) Why have we not been able to open up our code (liscense) so that the shockwave/flash plugins are part of these new browsers from MSFT & NSCP?
8) Our we not buying back stock as of yet, because you see what I see?
9) Where do we see our greatest threat from on the horizen? (i.e. - MSFT? ADBE? MCRE? MBED?...etc)
10) I know you read this thread, and I know some of your employed post here...how about some reaal guidence?
