Ted, there's a lot to discuss about rail, but one of the dumbest ideas I've seen is the "auto train." You're not saving much energy, if at all, and the infrastructure cost just doesn't make any sense.

I believe they said in the article if trains were electrified, there would be considerable energy savings with auto trains.

You seem unaware of how much more efficient trains are than autos lb tranported-wise. You save MAJOR amounts of energy.

Cost wise, you save only if you were going to rent a car at your destination. Only some long routes make sense.
