One reason why this particular recession is really bad is because we've become so good at cutting short all the other recessionary periods we had.

Well, now you seem to admit that it's possible to cut short or deflect a recession...hence someone, government (which is the collective us) does play a role. Second, this recession is very bad in the absolute sense...it's wiping out unprecedented wealth and with it the financial infrastructure that supported its creation. This one ain't like the ones that came before it, unless you go back 80 years.

It's going to be painful, especially for those without a job, but hey, I'd rather be a "heartless conservative" than an idiot who trades long-term growth for short-term relief.

Implied in your statement is the notion that someone is doing that...who and how?

"Hence it's a useless exercise to find someone or something to blame for the current recession."

It's what we DO, Ten. Hoover (R) is responsible for our last depression, Bush (R) will be responsible for this one. It will cement in people's minds forever that (R)'s just can't be trusted with the economy, or, to put it another way, the (R)'s will likely make all your money worthless.
