What happened to that, and how come the media has such a short-term memory?

Forget the media sideshow. You don't like it, talk at/to the politicians. Like the rest of America did.

Your "media" whining BS is just that.

I now believe that it's a waste of time and money, with the only benefits being shallow and political.

Everything is clear in the rearview mirror...this is a crisis no one understands, and although I am sure that grifters are on high alert, how do we know how bad it could be without it?

As for stimulus packages, didn't we already try that last year? Send out stimulus checks so that people can spend and revive a faltering economy? What happened to that, and how come the media has such a short-term memory?

You might notice that O is trying to mollify the Reps with "stimulus" tax cuts, but his real goal is putting people to work through funded infrastructure projects.

That was a stupid stimulus. If people think they might not have a job in six months and you throw $500 at them, they're not so likely to spend that $500. They're probably going to save it or pay down a debt.

But if you give people jobs, they'll spend the money they get. And if you give people jobs doing things that are good for the country and in fact make money for it in the long term as well, then people, feeling their jobs are secure, will spend their money they earn and help create more jobs. It's not rocket science.

If I have an illness and I take one sort of drug that doesn't cure the illness, should that preclude me from taking a different one that my doctor prescribes?
